You Know Them, But Do You Know Yourself?

One thing we often forget in life is not knowing ourselves well enough. It sounds ridiculous, because we grow up, we experience many things, but we still don’t fully know who we are.

Like… what’s your favorite color? Your favorite movie? Song? Food or drink? What do you genuinely like, and what do you actually don't like? How is it possible that we know other people so well, but struggle to answer simple questions about ourselves?

I think getting to know yourself is really important. Because once you do, things start to feel clearer. You know what you enjoy, what drains you, and what’s worth chasing. You stop running just because everyone else is running.

Here’s why knowing yourself matters:

  1. Become more confident
When we know exactly who we are, we feel more confident doing the things we love. We understand our purpose and know what steps to take next to achieve our goals. I believe that the more we achieve, the more motivated and confident we become.
  2. Make better decisions
Knowing yourself helps you choose based on your values, limits, and strengths (not pressure). Your decisions start making sense for you, not just for other people.
  3. We actually grow
If someone doesn’t know themselves, it’s hard to know which parts of life need improvement. Knowing yourself means recognizing both your weaknesses and your strengths.
  4. Life feels more intentional
When you know yourself, you stop living on autopilot. Your goals, habits, and lifestyle slowly start reflecting who you are, not what’s expected of you.
  5. Stop comparing yourself with others
Self-awareness increases self-acceptance. Instead of thinking, “Why am I not like someone else?” we start asking, “How far have I come?” or “Am I better today than yesterday?” It helps us realize that everyone is playing a different game.

Those are the reasons why knowing yourself truly matters.

Hope it helps!
